Code: DOC0615Date: 7/11/2016Type: Academic

This thesis explores the way Aboriginal communities perceive child neglect and the factors that promote and detract from adequate parenting. BJ Newton is an Aboriginal woman who conducted research looking at Indigenous and non-Indigenous perceptions of child neglect. This research involved eighteen Aboriginal parents and nine Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal human services workers participating in semi-structured in depth interviews about their perceptions of when a child is at risk of neglect (page ii). The research found that there isn’t much difference in the way the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people perceive child neglect (page ii).
