Parliamentary Select Committee, Report on Aboriginal Tribes (British Settlements) (Report, 01 January 1837)
Code: DOC0014Date: 19/5/1837Type: Legislative
The aim of this report was to consider the measures that should be adopted with regard to native inhabitants in ‘British settled’ countries, Australia being identified as one. The first ‘suggestion’ made by the committee was the ‘protection’ of native to devolve on the executive, meaning the government of the colony should be responsible for the protection of Indigenous people, which was then implemented in NSW through its legislation.
